STUDENT LIFE

Missions Minded with a Heart for Community Service

First Grade

Our first graders have very special Pen Pals who live in the Grand Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Okeechobee. OCA’s 1st Grade teacher, Mrs. Olalde, has always made an effort to keep the bond between generations strong and filled with love. Over the years, each of her classes have exchanged hand-written letters, crafts, valentines, Christmas presents, and more with the delightful residents of Grand Oaks! They also visit their Pen Pals as often as they can!

Star Throwers began in the 2017-2018 school year. We are a student-led organization that exists to create community and spiritual formation among the students of OCA. We also express the love of Christ to our community and world through acts of service, giving, and prayer. To date, we have been able to connect with, pray for, and bless others in need with over $8,000 through student donations given at our Chapel services. Here are some of the local and world organizations to whom we have donated and for whom our students continue to pray:
  • Open Hands Health Center
  • Pregnancy Center of Okeechobee
  • Real Life Children’s Ranch
  • Big Lake Missions
  • Lighthouse Refuge
  • Martha’s House
  • Luke/Jamie Knickerbocker (missionaries to Nepal)
  • Let Me Introduce You – Greg/Kilby Helms (missionaries to Belgium and Uganda)
  • Cast Love – Grace Baptist Church, Cape Coral, FL
  • Special Olympics of Okeechobee
  • Vets Helping Vets
  • Go.Build.Love
  • Teen Missions
  • Ride for God
  • Wreaths Across America
  • Wells for Life
  • FAAST – Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking
  • Voice of the Martyrs
  • Wycliffe Bible Translators

Kindness Week & Donation Dress Days

During Kindness Week, students and staff participate in various activities. Each day has its own kindness theme with ways to bless others through monetary or item donations to local charities and missions, acts of kindness for our school, as well as kindness acts for local community heroes and first responders. The students enjoy giving in practical ways while dressing up in the daily theme.
Donation Dress Days happen when a need within the OCA community arises, and the students and staff try to alleviate that need through physical blessings and prayer. Some of the families that OCA faculty and students have blessed are: the Feightner family, the Nickalson family, the Ray family, the Cole family, the Entry family, and the Scherrer family.
Schoolwide, 260 cereal boxes were collected and donated to Martha's House.
Collections of $500 were donated to Wreaths Across America.
